MMA > Pro Wrestling

Like so many others, professional wrestler Kurt Angle is going to test his skills in the octagon. He announced this week that he plans on fighting Mixed Martial Arts by the end of next year (2009). I can’t wait to see this. Before wasting a whole lot of time and talent with the sham that is professional wrestling he was a championship wrestler. Gold medal in fact. He claims he wants to just try out MMA and return to pro wrestling at some point.

“God-willing, I’ll walk away successful and I can come away from MMA saying ‘I did it’ and go back to my professional wrestling roots.”

what do you think Shaq?

I personally think it would be a shame if he started MMA just for kicks and then left to that dog and pony show that is TNA.

Fellow professional wrestler Brock Lesnar successfully made the transition to the octagon back in 2006 and I dont think he is going to return to the Pro ring. check this guy out.

He beat that guy in just over a minute. Pounded his face in. Incredible.

The growing popularity of mixed martial arts is opening up all sorts of new opportunities for college athletes that want to pursue sports on the next level. There are countless former college wrestlers in the MMA world now.

I personally find MMA to be one of the most exciting sports out there today. It’s not long an drawn out like boxing and has all the violence anyone could ask for. Watching 2 guys fighting until one gives up or is unconcious is something humans have been doing for centuries. It entertains the masses and takes incredible athletic talent which I can appreciate.

Lets Review

1.Kurt Angle needs to drop wrestling and do work in the octagon

2. Brock Lesnar stays winning

3.TNA stays losing

4. Watch the debate tonight, Play Palin Bingo, Vote

Shaunie to Shaq: Big Man, Tell Me How My Ass Tastes

Fri,October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I’m not saying that I’m against reconciliation in a marriage.  In fact, I feel like the only reason anyone should get a divorce is if they really have absolutely no possible hope of making things work.

But with that said, it’s a bit different when you’re an athlete or entertainer.  Truth be told, those cats don’t have to play by the rules, so why do it?  That’s why I was so shocked when I heard Shaq and Shaunie got back together, especially after she played out of position and got jiggy with that Dominican “trainer.” Clearly Mrs. O’Neal didn’t get the memo regarding her duties as the Wife piece.

I know, I know, Shaq was just as bad as Shaunie, no, he was worse.  He had hoes in every state.

Yeah, but he’s Shaq.  You know, the dude who came into the league at 7′, 2″, 320 lbs, and could move like a cat.  The dude who was literally unstoppable on the block.  Yes, that dude.  She’s just Shaunie.  Let’s be clear, she came up HUGE with Shaq, but let it all get away behind some cat who looked like this:

I’m sorry, unless Shaq pulled an OJ and literally killed you, I just can’t see how she could step out like that.  Call me old fashion (ha) but she needs to recognize her situation more than that.  Or maybe not, peep Shaq and Shaunie yesterday in NYC, spending more of his stacks at Barneys:

Haaa and umm, what the hell is that on Shaq’s head?  Are you serious?  Now see, you can look at this picture and see that my man aint right in the head.  Shaunie is running his shit.

Sad.  Kobe’s got the Gold.  Shaunie got the dough.  And Shaq, all he’s got are those horrible Icy-Hot commercials with payments going direct-it-tally into Shaunie’s own version of an unstable Fannie Mae account.  Mr. O’Neal, you asked Kobe to tell him how your ass tastes?

Ya need to get your own house in order before you talk shit my friend.  Ugly.

Bobcats Wallace Impresses New Coach Larry Brown

Fri,October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

From the ASSOCIATED PRESS, Mike Cranston writes “Gerald Wallace on Wednesday received a gushing review from new coach Larry Brown. ‘My whole career, guys like him have been the backbone of every team I’ve coached,’ said Brown, who has run a record nine NBA teams. ‘Athletic guys that can run the floor, that can defend, can rebound. Not necessarily shooters, but just basketball players.’”

Pat Riley is at it again!

Fri,October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

As soon as I heard the news that Randy Pfund had resigned, I knew. Now, this Miami Herald article has given me all the proof that I need. Pat Riley has pushed another employee out for his gain. We’ve seen this before haven’t we? For all of you who don’t remember, Stan Van Gundy was the Miami Heat’s coach once. He even lead them to the brink of the Eastern Conference Finals with a young rookie named Dwyane Wade. With that success and the addition of……

8.24.08 Best NBA Nicknames, Part II

Fri,October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Welcome back for the second edition of The Quick Report. You can view the first part of my Best NBA Nicknames blog in my archive. For this round I’ve selected six more cool NBA nicknames to throw at you. As I stated before, this blog happens to be apart of a three blog series. You should expect part III on Monday evening. Though, for now, let’s see what part two has to offer.

“Flash” – Dwyane Wade

In the last two NBA seasons I don’t think anyone could really still call Dwyane Wade “Flash” but as many of us have noticed, the nickname has come back to it’s full worth in Beijing. Dwyane Wade’s ability to find seams in the defense and snake his way to the rim at lightning quick speeds is really awe inspiring. One moment Wade is in front of you and in a flash he’s just hit a reverse lay-up on your basket.

“Earl the Pearl” – Earl Monroe

Many basketball historians credit Earl Monroe with being the player that inspired the over the top nicknames we see today. Oscar Robertson may have been “The Big O” and Jerry West was certainly “Mr. Clutch” but none of those have the flare of  “Earl the Pearl.” “The Pearl” is a nickname that is a remnant of a time when basketball became not just a game, but a marvelous show as well.

“Magic” – Earvin Johnson

I’ve decided not to rank these nicknames because I feel that just isn’t need, but if one were to rank the greatest nicknames in NBA history, what would be #1? I don’t think I want to venture an answer, but Earvin Johnson’s hold on the word “Magic” would have to be very high. No one knows the greatest point guard in NBA history by any other name than “Magic.” Magic Johnson isn’t really even nickname. It’s who the player/legend is.

“The Diesel” – Shaquille O’Neal

Out of the many, many nicknames Shaq has given himself I like “The Diesel” the best. When he was at his best, Shaq was arguably the most dominant player in history. The only way you could combat his size and strength was to foul him and hope he missed his free throws. “The Diesel” brings to mind thoughts of something massive and overwhelming. When he was in his prime, that’s exactly what Shaquille O’Neal was.

“The Black Mamba” – Kobe Bryant

I struggled with whether to include this one or not. “The Black Mamba” is named after a really deadly snake, but it’s also taken from a movie, Kill Bill, where the character of the same name is a female assassin. That’s kind of an odd choice for a male basketball player looking for a badass nickname, but it works. I don’t think anyone who watched Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals last season could argue that Kobe Bryant is extremely fatal to the opposition.

“Penny” – Anfernee Hardaway

“Penny” was to Anfernee Hardaway what “Magic” was Earvin Johnson. No one after 1993 called this guy Anfernee. He was Penny Hardaway. His career may have been derailed due to injury, but this guy is still Penny Hardaway. The best nicknames aren’t the ones the commentators use when a player puts on a game highlight. The best nicknames are the ones that stick.

Check back Monday for Part III. Until then check out the site I linked to below. It’s pretty cool.

Knicks Already Like Sound of Mike D’Antoni

Fri,October 3, 2008 · Leave a Comment

In the NEW YORK DAILY NEWS, Frank Isola writes “the arduous task for coach Mike D’Antoni and Knicks president Donnie Walsh is to try to reestablish a winning culture at the Garden. The Knicks play and act like a team that has suffered through seven straight losing seasons. ‘They want hope,’ D’Antoni said following the team’s morning practice at Skidmore College. ‘They are good basketball players and somewhere they played very well. They want to be a cohesive group. They want to believe in something. My job is to keep them there. Keep them focused. Even if we lose four in a row you’ve got to be able to overcome that. You can’t become negative.’”
